Take a Seat: A Class Rug

My students need a rug and seating circles to create a family/community feeling in our classroom.

My Students

First grade is such an exciting time that is filled with questions and curiosity. A lot of which is explored together as a family on the rug in the classroom. First graders are also forming those special bonds and making friends and memories as a group.

The majority of the students that I will teach this year come from Navy families.

I can only imagine what a rug would do for my class. It would allow them to have a consistent place to come together every day and it would allow us the opportunity to create a family community in our class.

My Project

First graders are at such a pivotal point in their school age life. They are learning so much and developing many many skills. One of which is what it means to create and keep good friends.

A rug will allow these students that come from Navy families to create a feeling of community and family.

Many of the students in my class come from the military which involves moving a lot. I would love to give them an area in our classroom where we can come together everyday and learn how to work together while creating consistency in our first grade family.
